November 2019
It was November 2019.
Isaac was 15 months old and had already exhibited cuteness (at least in parents' eyes)
It was 3 months before the beginning of pandemic and the PRC's lockdown of Wuhan.
It was the time where there was no restriction to take Isaac out and there was no facial mask mandate...
In parents' eyes, Isaac had been a cute baby whenever he was not throwing a tantrum. Now his cuteness had been internationally recognised, first by the cabin crews then by many people in Japan throughout the trip. As parents we must say we were happy with the praises to our little boy.
This modern Japanese ryokan (Inn) located in Shinjuku with just two stations from Shinjuku Station (said to have 3 millions people passing through daily).
It has comfortable rooms and meals served in your room, which was super convenient to anyone travelling with a baby.
Unfortunately it did not survive the pandemic so it was the only time we stayed.
The baby facilities were improving in Hong Kong and elsewhere, but those in Japanese were simply the top notch. There are dedicated baby room with all facilities, including private feeding rooms.
We were blessed to enjoy the unagi (eel) with the entire room to us in Asakusa, which Isaac was wondering around the room when we were enjoying the unagi and observing the Tokyo Skytree.
Isaac was practicing his climbing skill at the stair in the Sumida Aquarium, where he came again more than 3 years later after the pandemic.
He became sleepy when he rided the lift up the Tokyo Skytree and slept throughout the observation deck.
Isaac had lots of space to exercise and practice his balance.
It was the time where parents did not have to worry about social distancing.
While Isaac was enjoying his milk, we had :-
1. kaisendon and otorodon at Toyosu Market (the wholesale fish market was move from Tsukiji to Toyosu in Oct 2018). The staff were having fun with Isaac during queuing.
2. unagi and unadon at Nihonbashi (they always give Isaac a set of mini shinkansen toy).
3. Kani (Crab) set from Kani Doraku (originated from Osaka) in Shinjuku.
4. Sukiyaki in Imahan (from Ningyocho) - unfortunately it was crowded with noisy tourists in later visits forcing us seeking for alternative.
5. Teppanyaki at Shibuya, 2nd time for parents but 1st time for Isaac, where they had been witnessing Isaac growing up in later visits.
They have all survived the pandemic.
